From November 2023 to April 2024 the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta has once again succeeded in implementing the ‘Basic goods project’. Through the project are ensured basic food products such as oil, flour, rice, pasta etc. to poor retirees and people from disadvantaged groups. This winter, over 1200 people in Sofia, Pleven, Dragomirovo, Gostilya, Bardarski geran, Belene, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo and villages around Cherven bryag received this support.
‘Heating costs, especially January heating bills were very high – explains Ambassador Ursula Hofter Zuccoli – and the food aid enables people in need to pay their bills or buy medicines of great importance to them. In small settlements, especially in the villages of Cherven bryag, the lack of work is also felt and people are even more financially challenged”.
