Metropolitan Nicholay of Plovdiv visited the Order of Malta

Metropolitan Nicholay of Plovdiv visited the headquarters of the Order of Malta in Rome and met with the government of the Order. He was received at the Master’s Palace by the Grand Commander – Fra Emmanuel Rousseau. The Metropolitan was accompanied by Bishop Sionij, Abbot of the Bachkovo Monastery, Bishop Vissarion of Smolen, Second Vicar of the Plovdiv Diocese, Archimandrite Maxim, priest Alexander. The meeting was also attended by the Italian entrepreneur Michele Santorelli of the Santorelli Group, and another Italian businessman, Michele Foglia. From the side of the Order of Malta participated the Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò, the Receiver of the Common Treasure Fabrizio Colonna and the Prelate Monsignor Jean Laffitte. The meeting was held thanks to the kind assistance of the Bulgarian Ambassador to the Holy See and the Order of Malta Mr. Bogdan Patashev. The representatives of the Order of Malta learned more about Plovdiv and the Plovdiv Metropolitanate, and the Bulgarian guests were introduced to the activities of the Order of Malta around the world. The common belief that religion has an important role in conflict situations and crisis scenarios – as an indispensable tool for promoting dialogue and peace – was reiterated.
